Pregnant shoot uh… Newborn!

As you probably all know, Christmas time is always a little bit hectic, visiting family, traveling etc… A few weeks before Christmas my friend Luc asked me to do a pregnancy photo shoot of his wife. He gave me a call on December 30th to see if I could make it to their house, turns out I couldn’t make it because of another project I was working on that needed to be done by the end of the month. We then set a date for the shoot after January 1st. A few days after, I get an email from Luc… Samuel, born December 31st.

I felt so bad about not being able to do the pregnancy shoot, oh well there are things you can’t control. Instead of shooting the belly we did a family photo shoot with Luc, Sylvie and baby Samuel.

Jessika Aubé

Last week I had the chance to have a photo session with Jessika Aubé. She is a young talented artist, if you don’t know her it’s just a matter of time before you do, I did those pictures for her upcoming demo CD. We’ve talked a bit during the photo shoot and I’ve learned that she plays the violon, guitar and the flute… she’s already won a few singing contest and I truly believe that we’ll hear a lot more from her in the next few year. Isn’t it stunning for a 16yo? She’ll go a long way…

Here’s just a few of my favorite from that photo session. If you ever want to know more about Jessika new upcoming demo CD, feel free to send me an e-mail and I’ll be glad to forward it to her.

Foggy in January

Every year, in January the weather gets warmer, but not to the point of melting most of the snow. It’s January 9th and it’s been raining for the past few days, it almost feels like spring time. Yesterday we could spot a bit of grass thru the snow, most of the fields where the wind had blown you could see the ground. I’ve NEVER ever seen that before, it makes me wonder about climate change and global warming.

Have you ever thought about it? It scares me to think about it! I’d like to visit the north before it’s too late, I’m not kidding, try to imagine the Northwest Territory without snow… I don’t know if by that time I’ll still be alive or not but it will happen. I think people should make an effort on trying to limit their consumptions, why not carpool to get to work? Gas price have been going up for the past few years too, leaving us with less money in our pocket BUT I also think of it this way, people care about the rising cost of gas price but they’ll only consider carpooling or getting an hybrid car once it’ll cost $5 to get to the grocery store. That’s maybe one of the main reason why in Europe people walk, take their bicycle or carpool to get to work. Their gas price is 2.3x more than in America. This isn’t, by any means, a rant… I’m just concerned of what where actually doing to our planet earth. Our one and only.

On my way to Mt. Dalhousie

After browsing the Web for places around the restigouche county I headed to Dalhousie with one thing in mind, going up Mount Dalhousie. Yes, there’s a Mount Dalhousie! Most of the people from the area who I spoke to didn’t even know about it, I had to go at the town hall to get some indications. They were very kind, gave me all the information I was looking for. At the bottom of Mount Dalhousie, I putted my snowshoes and started walking… walking… walking… it seemed a bit to far from what I had in mind though I was lucky to spot the one and only ski-doo, I stopped them and asked about the Mount and told me I was probably going in the wrong way, I knew I was close but time was running and I wanted to hit the top before sunset. It was already 3 o’clock and still freezing cold, about -27 degree. Turned around and decided to find the trail that would lead me to the top…

I did found it after a bit of wondering around. On my way to the top trees where covered in snow, that alone was great but I found it would be better to have someone in the picture to get a sense of scale and get more life to the picture. That’s when the self-timer comes in handy :)

Lugging about 10 pounds of gear on my way to the top was a good at helping me lose the Christmas fat, I’m now considering a carbon fiber tripod! Even with 2 extra battery, I had a hard time keeping them charged. In low temperature I always keep a few battery in my pocket to keep them warm enough and I change it often. Wind started to blow once at the top thus making it harder for me to focus because of the really cold wind. It must’ve been at least -35 on the top… I still managed to get one picture I really enjoy. I hope you’ll like it as much as I do.

Best,
Mic

Dead End

Went for a drive this past Sunday with my lovely wife, I was scouting for some new spots cuz after shooting for more than 2 years at the same places and location I’m getting tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. It seems like I’ve shot those places so many times in different weather conditions and composition etc… I need to get out a bit more and get inspired by nature.

This time instead of taking the Acadian Coastline road we decided to go up to Dalhousie while taken all the roads that seemed to be leading us to the Bay of Chaleur. At the end of those little roads you’ll might find some of the best locations. Unfortunately, most of the roads we took that day lead us to a Dead End sign at the end of the road with the Bay in background. After all a I shouldn’t complain, I was only scouting.

Dead End

It’s been too long.

I know, I know…. it’s been too long since my last post. Lately, I’ve been really busy and haven’t had the time to shoot at all. I did an outing/scouting on December 24th. The weather wasn’t so nice but it was great to be shooting in a different area (Campbellton). Here’s a few shots taken that morning.
