Kiss Wedding Book

Not only had I been working in my basement, part of it was spent on designing a wedding album for an amazing couple.  This was my first experience dealing with Kiss and I must say I’m quite impressed with the results.  The leather quality is awesome, printing is accurate (if your monitor is calibrated) and the paper quality is fantastic.  I’m thrilled and can’t wait to deliver them.

Dealing with Kiss has been really simple, even if it was the first one I created with this particular company.  Their moto is “The World’s Simplest Book Company”, sure there are others out there that may be similar but… it still ain’t a Kiss Book.

Everything was super easy, uploading, preview of the book before printing and submit and that’s all you have to worry about.  Once it was uploaded to their site the next day it was already printing and the day after it was binding time.  If it would not have been for shipping/customs , it would’ve been here in about 3-4 days max.

The only downer was the brokerage/customs fees I had to pay.  This is something I had not thought about initially and in our area UPS can be a pain since they don’t cover this area so it’s a subcontracted to another company.  It then becomes harder to track your parcel or even get the hand on it.

Autumn Reflection

Autumn is my favorite season of all, there is always a cool breeze, huge cummulus clouds and when it’s not overcast, stunning light conditions.  When the light peaks thru the clouds back lighting the colored leaves still hanging on, it gives an amazing show not everyone is able to witness.  Most places I visited this year had yellow colored leaves mostly because it was land of the White Birch, sometime you could spot the contrasting bright red of a great Canadian Maple.  The fallen leaves will again decompose and it will be the beginning of a new cycle for new life.  This shot might seem like a water reflection but in autumn with the constant wind it would be almost impossible to get a calm body of water.  To get the desired shot I’ve used a low shutter speed of 1/25th at F16 using the multiple exposure Nikon camera has, this was 3 shots panning up.

Photo Tree

Yep, a photo tree, even with an explanation or a drawing to show my friends it wasn’t hard to see they were still confused.  Before anyone would start thinking I was crazy with my ideas I put a plan into action, on the weekend I went to seek for old wood left by the sea.  It wasn’t an easy task has I had to find a tree trunk with roots that could be stable enough and about four rustic log with an about 5 to 6 inch in diameter, everything had to fit in our 2 door Cavalier.  After searching for about an hour I had found all I needed and more to go forward with my Photo Tree project.

Where have I gotten the idea? Nowhere, a brainstorm of ideas to better display my work at the Chal-Baie Artisans Boutique was  initial reason of all this.  This project would’ve never came to life if it wasn’t for my wife for all her time getting the 4×6 ready, my dad for is chainsaw, my friend Daniel for his chainsaw skills and drill bits and Yves for his electric drill.  It’s now almost done, there’s a few things to tweak here and there but you will get the idea.

Busy Weekend

This weekend was busy but a lot of fun since I got to spend time with my wife and do what I like the most, photography.  I’m currently working on a project and there’s a bit of traveling involved so Saturday morning we woke up, went to Tim’s to get our fuel for the day and took the highway toward Miramichi then all the way up to Caraquet.  For lunch we went to the best bakery around, “Boulangerie Grains de folie” in Caraquet where I got homemade pizza with Feta cheese and brocoli salad and my wife got a quiche with a garden salad.  The food is excelent, they have a good variety of cheese and good bread and you can’t go wrong with a chocolat croissant.   Where are they located?  Easy, 171 bldv. Saint-Pierre Ouest, Caraquet.

After eating all that great food we headed to our next assignment, set the light and as usual I use my beautiful wife as a model to fine tune my lighting before the client comes into place.  In this shot there was still a few tweaking to be done like to get a better rim light etc…  We were limited in time and area that we could use for the shot so it had to be very minimalist while keeping an excellent photo quality.

Fishing Shanties on the Chaleur Bay

If you’re ever driving in northern NB, instead of taking Hwy11 it would be worth it to take the old Hwy 134 to be able to go thru all the small little villages and see some old houses and fishing community.  In Point la Nim, near Dalhousie Junction, they set up their bobhouse every year to ice fish Smelt which is a small little fish about 20cm long and very good.  I’ve always loved how colorful these little shanty are, especially the pink and yellow one.

Season’s Greetings / Joyeuses fêtes

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of those who take the time to read/view my blog.  More post coming up shortly but I’ll be “disconnected” for a short period during holidays, I’ll be traveling and haven’t decided on the purchase of a laptop yet but… I can smell it, I’ll get one soon enough :0).

May joy and comfort be with you and yours during this Holiday Season!

Alive

I’m still alive, been pretty busy lately with different things.  One was my photo exhibit, which is still on at this time, I had overwhelming amount of guest at the opening, about 150 people showed up.  The musician Jimmy Abud did an amazing job playing the piano/sax and clarinet.  For those of you who didn’t had the chance to visit the gallery, here’s an overview of the exhibit showing (21) 11×17 prints.

Shortly I’ll be posting shots of my trip I did in BC and AB over the past few weeks, that’s the reason why I haven’t posted in a while, I had no internet access.  Post should be steady from now on.

Élégante Simplicité

See english message below.

Micael Savoie is a young photographer impassioned by the aesthetics of the world around him. Through the lens of his camera, he perceives simple beauty but of an absolute elegance which shapes the whole of his works. His natural talent for framing and his exceptional control of lighting, enable him to redefine the meaning of elegance. At first glance, his works speaks to the soul allowing the often forgotten voices deep within to speak aloud.

We appreciate your time and look forward to seeing you at the opening reception.

Hospitality days

Last sunday was the end of the Bathurst festival.  Like each year, thousands of people gather across the bassin to watch the fireworks; I’m always amazed by the colors, shapes and reflection.  Here’s one from sunday.
